Date: June 6th 2008
Hello all,
It has been extremely windy out here on the farm this week with record breaking heat. It doesnt look like that will change anytime in the foreseeable future. For us that means putting up shade cloth for the more delicate crops and watering a little more often for the rest. Mornings and evenings continue to be very pleasant and a great time to work outside. Of course all the hot crops love the weather weve been having and are really taking off. Those crops include okra, peppers, tomatoes and squash all of which will be at the market this week.
We want to reassure everyone that our tomatoes are not the ones that caused the scare this last week. Our tomatoes are grown locally using organic growing principles and, of course, salmonella free which is one of the many benefits of buying from SAFM. Blackberries are looking good and we should have several pints at market. The chickens are proving to be the smartest animals out here by staying in the shade during the heat of the day and going out scratching most of the rest of time. The cows seem to mind the heat less than the chickens and are still able to find plenty of good grass to eat.
Tony from P/2 Organic will be taking a few weeks off this summer but will be at the market the next 2 weeks. This week at the market we will have will have blackberries, okra, squash, potatoes, carrots, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, basil, pecan tarts, fresh baked breads, canned goods, pestos, dried fruit, dried tomatoes, herb plants, eggplant, tomato and pepper plants, basil plants, and fertilizer.
See you all there and as always, thank you for your support!
We are located 2910 S. Congress (El Gallo Restaurant)
EVERY Saturday from 9am until 1pm.
